The North Face Wulai Challange

On Saturday four of us went through to the North Face duathlon adventure race in Wulai. I was not feeling completely psyched for this one, but once the race started, I felt more focused.

Wulai is beautiful and the perfect setting for a race like this one. We started on the bikes for a 12km bike, mostly uphill. Then we left our bikes at a transition area and ran an 8km on/0ff road course. Once again the run was almost all the way uphill to where the off road section started. The off road section was lots of fun and we had to be really focused not to slip on some very tricky terrain. After the turn point for the run, it was a fast downhill run back to where we left the bikes. Back on the bikes for a slippery but fast return to the finish line.

I was very happy with my performance. I finished 2nd overall, 30 seconds behind my friend Ceri Lines, who is also from Hsinchu. Ceri is a very strong runner and I was happy to be able to keep up with him for at least half of the run.

Now I'm looking forward to the next race in Wugu, on the 2nf of November.
